Technologies in the pet space in 2025

Technology is evolving alongside pet owners’ needs to maintain the highest levels of nutrition and health for their animals, and it’s something we can expect to continue throughout 2025 and beyond, according to the industry.

“With advancements in technology, pet parents are making smarter, personalized nutrition decisions for their pets,” said Chad Wethal, global marketing manager for Pet at Cargill, a company providing food, ingredients, agricultural solutions and industrial products to various industries. “We expect to see more data-driven nutrition solutions become available to meet savvy consumers’ needs. More fitness monitoring tools like smart collars, and health monitoring apps and at-home diagnostic kits with corresponding nutrition recommendations will empower consumers to take personalization to the next level.”

The personalization needs are expected to become even more granular, similar to what’s gaining popularity in the human health spaces.

“As technology becomes more accessible, pet parents are seeking customized nutrition for their pets based on breed, age, activity level and even genetic profiles,” said Marcial Guevara, global senior technical product manager for Pet at biosolutions company Novonesis. “Biotech solutions like probiotics tailored for specific microbiomes or enzyme blends for particular dietary needs can be at the forefront of personalized pet nutrition.”

Of course, technology is meant to provide convenience and connection, something tech for pets seems to be striving for.

“Technology-driven solutions, such as apps for scheduling vet visits, monitoring pet health, and tracking fitness levels through wearables and smart collars, are revolutionizing the way pet owners care for their pets,” said Heather Scott, chief marketing officer at pet supplement company Vetnique. “With these advancements, pet parents can enjoy greater peace of mind and a more connected, data-driven approach to their pets’ well-being.”

Overall, the goal for pet-focused technology is likely to be  incredibly focused and as real-time as it gets — the industry just has to keep up.

“Precision nutrition is well-established in the livestock nutrition industry, but as consumers continue to seek greater granularity regarding their pets’ nutrition and health, we see an opportunity in the pet space as well,” said Wethal. “Precision nutrition solutions help consumers understand and gain control of the nutrients in their pets’ diets. We have seen this trend play out in recent years through personalized nutrition plans, and advancements and access to greater data will likely lead to hyper-personalized nutrition that accounts for a pet’s real-time health data.”
